Association between restless leg syndrome and overactive bladder in hospitalized patients of Imam Reza hospital, Tabriz, 2022

Restless leg syndrome, also known as Willis-Eckbom's disease (RLS/WED), is a common condition. Recently, cases of overactive bladder symptoms have been reported in RLS patients. It is still unclear whether overactive bladder is a subtype of RLS or a variant of it. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the relationship between RLS and overactive bladder.
Methods
135 patients with restless leg syndrome who visited Imam Reza Center or private practice were included in the study. After obtaining oral consent from the patients and then confirming that these patients have restless legs syndrome, the questions of the ICIQ-OAB questionnaire were asked to check the presence of overactive bladder symptoms using the Persian version of the Cambridge Hopkins Restless Leg Syndrome Diagnostic Questionnaire (CHRLSq). became. SPSS21 software was used for calculations.
Results
The results of the present study showed that the number of women with RLS/WED was more than men. The most common underlying disease in the studied subjects was diabetes mellitus with blood pressure. Forty percent of patients were taking medicine. People with a history of covid-19 disease constituted 48.9% of the participants. In subjects with nocturnal enuresis, there was a significant difference between those who felt discomfort while sitting or lying down and those who did not. There was a positive correlation between the age of the patients participating in the study and the age of onset of restless leg syndrome. Also, there was a positive correlation between the age of onset of restless leg syndrome and OAB score.
