The critical review of urology dissertations in the last ten years

Theses of medical students contain the latest scientific and specialized information, therefore, their detailed evaluation to find out their weak points can have a significant impact on improving the research level of any society. Thus, the purpose of this research is to critically evaluate thesis of the Urology department of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences from 2013-2023.
Methods and Material: The present study was a retrospective descriptive study in which all theses conducted in the Urology department in the last ten years were evaluated. The total number of available theses was 108, and finally 88 theses were evaluated. Strobe checklist, Consort checklist and JBI checklist were used to evaluate theses.
Results: Among 88 theses, 58 were related to general medicine and 30 were related to residency. On average, the summary and abstract sections in all theses were written based on the existing checklists. The title of the studies was presented in 77% based on the Strobe checklist and in 47.6% based on the Consort checklist. On average, in 64.1% of theses, the methodology section was written according to Strobe's statement and 67.9% of theses were written according to Consort's statement standards. The most important vulnerable index of theses compiled was not justifying the sample size, which was not justified in 47.5% of theses. In systematic review studies, most of the studies (more than 75%) had the essential quality.
