Comparison of Therapeutic Response between Patients with Asthma, COPD and ACOS via evaluation of spirometric data

Abstract

Asthma & COPD both are common public health problem that defined as chronic inflammation of the airways.In the recent years more attention switch to probability of coexictence of them in one person called ACOS that according to GOLD-GINA guidelines defined as constant airflow limitation with features of Asthma and COPD concurrently . Considering the relatively high prevalence of ACOS and lack of adequate data about it, this study was designed for comparison of the therapeutic response between Asthma , COPD & ACOS on the base of spirometric data. Materials & Methods : In this cross-sectional study 30 known patients with mild to moderate asthma , 30 known patients with mild to moderate COPD & 30 known patients with mild to moderate ACOS ( according to GOLD-GINA guidelines) randomizly were chosen from patients who were refered to pulmonology clinics at Tabriz . All steps of study was told them and informed satisification was taken. Spirometry performed for all of them . Then they took standard treatment for two months. Then spirometry repeated . Incresement of post bronchodilator FEV1 & FEV1/FVC between three groups of patients was compared by SPSS26 statistical software .Incresement of FEV1 did not differ significantly between 3 groups. (p-value<0.05) Incresement of FEV1/FVC differed significantly between three groups.It was in Asthma 7.56 more than COPD(p-value=0.017) and 6.96 more than ACOS.(p-value=0.028).
