The epidemiological survey and determination of the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in employees of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences

Epidemiology is the study of the distribution and determinants of disease. Study the prevalence and incidence of diseases and determine the pattern of diseases in a population. Mental disorders are common all over the world and are considered as complex problems in the health system. Mental health problems are also common in the working population. And has raised growing concerns about potential impacts on employees and organizations, as well as on society and the economy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the epidemiology and determine the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in the staff of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in order to obtain valuable information in the field of prevention planning at different levels. Method: Employees of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences were invited to participate in the study based on the inclusion criteria. During this study, a CIDI questionnaire was filled out by psychologists based on the protocol. And those who needed to be referred to a counselor or psychiatrist were also referred. The collected data were analyzed in SPSS software. Findings: A total of 1540 employees of the conditions unit were evaluated. Of which 707 were male and 833 were female. In the surveyed staff, 14/1 % had generalized anxiety disorder, which was more common in women. And there was a significant relationship between gender and the prevalence of generalized anxiety disorder. Of these, 3/9 % had obsessive compulsive disorder. There was no statistically significant relationship between gender and the prevalence of obsession. 12/5 % of employees had major depressive disorder, which was more common in women. There was a statistically significant relationship between gender and education level with the prevalence of depression, so that it increased from diploma to bachelor and then decreased in master and doctorate.
