Comparition of pathology results with echocardiographic results in heart tumors in Tabriz Madani hospital in past ten years

Abstract

Heart masses are very rare in the community. And there is a possibility of treatment in them.In general, the average of primary heart masses diagnosed before surgery has increased during the existence of echocardiography. In this study, our aim was to compare information extracted from echocardiography and pathology in relation to cardiac masses.

Methods and Materials: First, the files of all patients who have undergone surgery at Shahid Madani Hospital in Tabriz during the last ten years with a diagnosis of heart mass, was collected from the archive. According to the pathology results and echocardiographic results of these patients, the type of masses and information such as number, size, location, tissue consistency and malignancy have been determined. These include a regulatory checklist including age, sex, previous history of cancer, known concomitant cancer, history of metastasis, history of coronary and valvular disease,number of surgeries, report of thrombosis, and family history of the patients was extracted, classified and examined.

Results: 132 patients with heart tumors confirmed by pathology and surgery, included 60 men and 72 women And in this study, a significant relationship was found in comparing cardiac masses detected in echocardiography and pathology, Including myxoma (p <0.001), thrombosis (p <0.001), infectious endocarditis and non bacterial thrombotic endocarditis (p <0.001) and papillary fibroelastoma (p <0.001), but no significant relationship was observed in fibroids, sarcomas and carcinomas.
