knowledge, attitude and practice of intensive care unit nurses towards VAP Bundle in sina,shohada and Emam reza hospitals

Abstract
ventilator associated pneumonia(VAP) is the most common nosocomial infection in ICU and It increases days of admission, hospital expenses and patient mortality. Previous studies have shown that high quality ICU care decreases the incidence of VAP and its adverse sequels. Therefore the aim of this study is to analyze knowledge, attitude and practice of intensive care unit nurses towards VAP Bundle in sina,shohada and Emam reza hospitals Method: For data collecting, the four-part questionnaire including the first part for demographic information, the second part for closed and open questions about knowledge, part III closed and open questions about attitudes, part four closed and open questions about function was used. Effectiveness and validity of the questionnaire will have been approved by Anesthesiologist and pulmonologist attending Descriptive cross-sectional study was performed from December 1397 to December 1398 by designing a questionnaire and distribution between nurses and re-collecting questionnaires and reviewing the presented responses and analyzing the results. Using X2 test, the relationship between knowledge, attitude and practice of nurses with each demographic variables and questionnaire data was investigated Results: in this study, total number of subjects were 100 nurses of ICU. Their age mean was 32.7 and 75% of participants were female and 25% were male. Highest degree of education was doctorate and lowest and also most common of, was master’s degree. Most of the participants have graduated from Tabriz university of medical science (36. 1%).max years of service was 27 y and min was 1 y. In study of knowledge of participants about VAP Bundles. in most of questions rate of correct answers were more than 50% with total mean of 61.5%. information and data’s collected from ‘attitude’ part showed that more than 80% of VAP Bundles criteria are taking place in critical units but also It showed that lower than half of ICUs (44.8%) have these “VAP Bundles criteria” accessible as papers. In study of “practice” total mean of correct answers was 59.07% which was lower than knowledge part.
