Identification of bacterial colonization in Third day versus first day in intubated patients in intensive care unit (ICU)

چکیده
Due to the different local microbial flora in different ICUs and the high prevalence of drug resistance, knowledge of the local microbial flora leading to VAP and effective infection control measures is essential to improve clinical outcomes; Therefore, we decided to perform the present study with the aim of identifying bacterial colonization in intubated patients on the first and third day of hospitalization in the intensive care unit (ICU). Materials and Methods This cross-sectional was performed during the years 1397-97 with the participation of 196 patients admitted to the intensive care unit of Imam Reza Hospital (Tabriz-Iran). Endotracheal tube secretions were removed sterile, placed in culture medium, and evaluated. The relationship between the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia and microorganisms isolated from the endotracheal tube was investigated by Mann-Whitney U test in SPSS21 software. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: There was a statistically significant relationship between Gram negative bacili (P=0.001) and stenotrophomonas maltophilia (P=0.014) and Staphylococcus areus (P = 0.038) with ventilator-dependent pneumonia.
