چکیده
Abstract: Background & Objective: Nausea and vomiting are common complaints of pregnancy which usually occur in first trimester, several herbal and chemical drugs are used for treatment. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of Metoclopramide with ginger in severity of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy. Material & Methods: In a double –blind randomized clinical trial, 60 pregnant women who has nausea and vomiting of pregnancy with gestational age <20 weeks were randomly assigned to receive either ginger 250 mg 4 times per day or metoclopramide 10 mg 3 times per day. Participants scored the severity of their nausea using visual analog scale and recorded the number of vomiting episodes in the last 24 hours before treatment and again during 4 consecutive days while taking treatment. Analysis was done with u-Mann Whitney and pair t test. Results: Of 90 pregnant women 60 patients followed the treatment protocol (30 per each group). There were no significant differences between the groups with respect to maternal age/ gravidity/ parity and gestational age. The visual analog scores of post therapy minus baseline nausea decreased significantly in 4th day in both groups (p<0.01). Likert scale showed an important in the severity of nausea and vomiting in ginger & metoclopramide groups respectively. Conclusion: Ginger was significantly more effective than metoclopramide to control the nausea and vomiting during pregnancy (27 women respective to 19). 90% in ginger and 64.7% in metoclopramide (p=0.01).
