Investigation of anti malarial activity of two species of Artemisia in in -vitro
چکیده
Introduction: Artemisia deserti and Artemisia austriaca are two species of Artemisia (Astraceae) and are widely distributed in Iran. In the present study, the anti-malarial activity of n-hexane , chloroform and methanolic extracts of these plants and fractions the stronger extracts of two plants was investigated.
Scope: In this study, the antimalarial activity of the aerial parts of Artemisia deserti and Artemisia austriaca by in-vitro β-hematin formation assay method was investigated.
Material and methods: All aerial parts of A. deserti and A.austriaca were collected, dried and extracted by Soxhlet apparatus. Extracts with significant anti-malarial effects were fractioned by VLC technique. In this method, chloroform extracts was washed with different percentages(10% , 20 % , 40 % , 60% , 80% and 100%) of ethyl acetate in n-hexane, 6 fractions were dried by rotary evaporator and weighed. The in-vitro β-hematin formation assay was used to measure anti-malarial activity. In this study, the anti-malarial activity of various extracts, as well as the fraction of the potent have been assessed. Finally, we evaluated the data using prism software.
Results: Among the extracts, chloroform extract of A. deserti had significant anti-malarial effects, with IC50 = 0.52 + 0.22. Among the fractions, fraction of chloroform extract of A. deserti (100%) had stronger anti-malarial effect.
Conclusion: it seems that the IC50 number of fraction of chloroform extract of Artemisia deserti (100%) is less than other fractions, maybe by more fractionation of (100%) of Artemisia deserti fraction good anti-malarial substances can be obtained from this plant.that detection of pure antimalarial compounds would be valuable.
