Abstract

Introduction: The use of salivary compounds due to non-invasive has provided a suitable tool for the replacement of blood components. Limited studies have been performed on salivary calcium and glucose levels. This study investigates serum and salivary levels of calcium and glucose . Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on 40 patients referring to Tabriz Dental School. Data were presented mean (± standard deviation) and frequency (percentages) for quantitative and qualitative variables, respectively. Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS19 software. To compare the results and significant difference between them was used the Independent Samples T Test. In this study, the significance level of P <0.05 was considered. Results: From 40 subjects we studied were 24 women and 16 men. There was a statistically significant difference between mean calcium in saliva and serum and mean calcium in serum was higher than mean salivary calcium (P-value <0.001). The mean glucose in serum was higher than mean salivary glucose (P-value <0.001) Conclusion: It is important to measure accurately the blood factors with the least damage to them. The study found that there was a statistical relationship between salivary glucose and blood, as well as between salivary calcium and blood of individuals. In the future, salivary samples can be used to measure glucose and calcium in individuals.
