Professional Development of Nurses in Educational Centers of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences

Absteract
Background & Aim: Professional development of nurses is the most important requirement of this care profession and has direct relation with the quality of services provided by nurses. Therefore, it seems necessary for nurses to evaluate them. The purpose of this study was to determine the professional development of nurses in Educational Centers of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences.
The present study is a descriptive cross-sectional study in which 350 nurses working in Educational Centers of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences which were selected by stratified random sampling. Data were collected using demographic questionnaire and professional development questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS13software, using T-test, Spearman correlation coefficient and Kruskal-Wallis test. For statistical analysis, a significant level of P <0.05was considered.
Result: The mean score of professional development of nurses in the score range of 1-5,was3.49 ± 0.40.According to the results, there was no significant difference between demographic variables of gender, service experience, education hours per year and marital status with the professional development of nurses working in Educational Centers of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences.But there was a significant difference between university, workplace, employment status, usual shift and the average annual income with the professional development of nurses.
Discussion: The results of this study showed that the rate of professional development in nurses of in Educational Centers of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences is good. Considering the significant difference between professional development and some of the individual social variables, it seems that by adjusting some of the variables that affect the professional development and organizational support, could promote the overall level of professional development are provided.
