چکیده
Introduction: Diabetes is a multifactorial metabolic disease that can damage to different organs of body such as the kidneys, therefore considered as a major public health problem in many parts of the world and Iran. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between serum and salivation levels of potassium and glucose in patients with diabetes. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on 40 patients with diabetes referred to dental faculty. Data were presented mean (± standard deviation) and frequency (percentages) for quantitative and qualitative variables, respectively. Statistical analysis was performed by SPSS19 software. To compare the results and significant difference between them was used the Independent Samples T Test and Pearson correlation test. In this study, the significance level of P <0.05 was considered. Results: From 40 diabetic subjects we studied were 28 women and 12 men.. 31 number of persions had type II diabetes. In 87.5% of cases, diabetes was controlled. The salivary potassium was higher than it in serum but it was the opposite about glucose. There was a correlation relationship between serum and salivary potassium and also there was a correlation relationship between glucose in serum and saliva. Conclusion: It is important to measure accurately the factors affecting diabetics with the least damage to them. In this study, it was found that there is a positive relationship between glucose in saliva and blood and patients and In the future, salivary samples can be used to measure glucose in these individuals but we cant use saliva instead of blood for measuring a potassium.
