dc.description.abstractabstract Introduction:Despite all the benefits of the mobile phone technology, which can meet certain daily needs of people, some negative aspects and effects of the technology cannot be ignored and easily neglected, especially when it harm individuals or the society. One of these cases is dependency or addiction to mobile phone. Aim: The aim of this study is investigating the relationship between personality factors and mobile phone dependence in students. Material & Methods: In this study, 448 students were chosen from Tabriz university of medical sciences. The research instruments were included Mobile phone problematic use scale, Approval motivation scale and social customs and mobile phone useself-administered questioners.The data was entered in to SPSS (version 13). After analyzing data with suitable tests, the quantitative results were shown Mean±SE and the maximum level of significance was 0.05. Results: Results showed that the studied parameters regarding dependence on mobile phone had significant difference in terms of gender, age, faculty, grade, semester, and residence, also it is established that there was the significant relationship between the approval motivation, social customs and loneliness with Factor 1 of dependence on cellular phone (Couldn`t afford to pay, Decreasing of productivity, Family complain, were furious when their phones were shut down, ) results also showed that self monitoring had incremental link with Factor 4 and Factor 3 of dependence on mobile phone(Lating for appointment, physical pain, sleep disorder) and among the demographic characteristics, approval motivation, social custom and loneliness were only associated with gender. Conclusions:personality factors has important role in mobile phone dependency so, measurement of symptoms of addictive personality and identifying people who are involved with the problem of cell phone use can be useful in promoting the correct use of the technology and health promotion in the community.en_US
