Abstract Introduction: Emergency sector is an important part of hospitals. one of the most important agent in delivery of care service in emergency sector, is human resource. the sufficient and proper human resource is one the vital agent, that improve meeting patients need in emergency sector. Aim: Aim of this study is Estimation of required nursing workforce for emergency department of Imam Reza hospital (Tabriz), based on linear programming model. Methods: This paper is cross sectional study. our study population were at work nurses in emergency sector of imam reza hospital. in this study all the services that been delivered by nurses in emergency sector, were detected in regard to time consuming and by using linear programming an WIN QSB software the optimal number of required nurses in different shifting were attained. Results: The results showed that we need 44 nurses for providing services in three shifting, that by utilizing flexible shifting system and linear programming this number can be decreased to 32 no. Conclusion: The linear programming that is a subtype of operational research methods collection and an appropriate technique for human resource, shifting and time programming that by detecting optimal human resources for work shifts making optimal dedicating of human resource possible. key word: operational research, linear programming, human resources, shiftingen_US
