Evaluation of Antibiotic use pattern in burned patients in Sina Hospital since last 4 years

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the pattern of antibiotic use in burn patients in Sina Hospital over the past four years. Materials and Methods: According to the criteria for entering the study, 100 patients with burns who were admitted to Sina Hospital in Tabriz during the past four years were enrolled in the study. Patients' information included age, sex, duration of hospitalization, isolated strain, antibiotic susceptibility, type of antibiotic used, antibiotic consumption, white blood cell count, body temperature, rhythm breathing, heart rhythm, burn percentage, cause of burn and burnt organs They were extracted from the hospital admissions file and recorded in the data collection form. Information about the antibiotic pattern was extracted from the WHO Guidelines. Results: The mean hospitalization time was 11.66 days. Only 5% of samples showed positive microbial culture samples, including Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Cephazolin with the frequency of 30% was the most commonly used antibiotics. 74% of patients received only one antibiotic therapy. The average percentage of burned body surface was 16.33%. Most patients (63%) had grade II + III burns. The most common cause of burns was heat from the flame. The most common site of burn was the right lower extremity with a frequency of 21%. Only two cases of motility were observed in this study.
