Evaluation of high school steudents knowledge about oral effect of smoking in Shabestar (1390)

Abstract

Smoking is one of the controllable risk factors. The aim of this study was to assess Shabestar students' knowledge about oral effects of smoking in 2011. Materal and Methods: This descriptive cross- sectional study was done on 165 high school student in Shabestar 2011. A questiomaire including demographic information and questions regarding oral effects of smoking was prepared . The questionnaires were delivered to student at their schools and then gathered . The data were analyzed via SPSS software by T test and ANOVA. Results: There were 83 boys and 82 girls students with the mean age of16.24 years. The mean score of knowledge was 8.42 and 8.95 for males and females respectively. There was no significant difference between them . Students who smoked were much less aware of the oral effects of smoking. Conclusion: Smoking rates among high school students with their knowledge of oral effect is inversely related .
