Comparison of microleakage with three different thickness of Calcium Enriched Mixture(CEM) as a root-end filling material

Surgical endodontic retreatment may be necessary if healing fails after conventional endodontic treatment or if conventional treatment cannot be performed. Different materials have been introduced for root-end filling purposes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the dye penetration in different thicknesses of CEM cement as retrograde filling material in root-end cavities prepared by Ultrasonic retrotips. Materials & Methods: After carrying out of root canal therapy in 70 human premolar teeth, 3 mm of their root ends was resected and root-end cavities were prepared by Ultrasonic retrotips in 1, 2, and 3 mm depth. The prepared cavities were filled by CEM cement and after immersing in Rhodamine B 2%, the dye leakage was assessed under stereomicroscope (16X). The collected date was analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Bonferoni post hoc test. P<0.05 was presumed significant in this study. Results: The mean Std. variance of 1, 2, and 3 mm groups were 3395.58 1893.442, 3410.47 1440.58, and 2581.65 1852.90, respectively. The one-way ANOVA analysis indicated that the difference between groups is statistically significant (P=0.000). But the Bonferoni post hoc test analysis revealed that only the difference between control group and other experimental groups was statistically significant (P=0.000). Conclusions: Based on the findings of this In-vitro study, there is not any difference among the sealing ability of different thicknesses of CEM cement as root- end filling material.
