A survay of knowledge and attidude towards cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) among dentistry students of Tabriz dental school 2012

Abstract

Cone beam computed tomography isused for orthodontic treatment , insertion of implant, evaluation of TMJ . The aim of this study was to evaluate of knowledge and attitude of students of dentistry of Tabriz dentistry university towards indications , benefits and limitations of cone beam computed tomographyin 2012. Material and Methods: This descriptive cross- sectional study was done on 184 dentistry students in 2012. A questionnaire regarding CBCT was prepared . The questionnaires were delivered to students and then gathered. The data were analyzed via SPSS 18 software by student s test, spearman correlation coefficients. Results: There were 184 dentists (85 male and 80 female while 19 unknown) with the mean age of 25.5 years.The mean score of knowledge about CBCT were 4.75 in fourth level, 3.89 in fifth level, 3.79 in sixth level and 10.2 in post-graduate students. There was positive correlation between mean average of knowledge of CBCT with being post-graduate student, however, there was no significant difference between under-graduate students in different levels. Conclusion: Knowledge of dentistry students in Tabriz about CBCT was almost poor or moderate. So application of strategies to increase their knowledge regarding CBCT is necessary .
