Abstract
Stress urinary incontinence is known as one of the most common types of urinary incontinence that occurs with increased pressure, physical activity, sneezing or coughing. CONTILIFE, a quality-of-life questionnaire for urinary incontinence, is a specific tool for measuring the impact of incontinence on quality of life. The present study aimed to conduct cultural adaptation of the CONTILIFE questionnaire, a quality-of-life questionnaire for urinary incontinence, and to determine the psychometric properties in patients with urinary incontinence. Methods: In this methodological study, the original version of the CONTILIFE questionnaire was conducted using the Forward-Backward method and converted into a Persian version. Two hundred and fifty-five patients with symptoms of stress urinary incontinence participated in this study and filled out the CONTILIFE. In order to determine the content validity according to experienced experts, the Content Validity Index (CVI) and Content Validity Ratio (CVR) were used to determine the content, clarity and simplicity of the questionnaire questions. In order to determine the reliability, test-retest stability, the intraclass correlation index (ICC) was calculated. In order to determine the internal consistency, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated for each factor and the entire instrument. Results: After preparing the Persian version and creating cultural adaptation, the questionnaire was reviewed and filled out by 255 women with urinary incontinence. The mean age of the participants was 52.95 ± 0.81 years. The minimum acceptable value for CVR was 0.62 and for CVI was 0.70. The results showed that the ICC index, which measures the stability of measurement over time, with values of 0.952 indicates the reliability of this scale at a very desirable level. The internal consistency index of this questionnaire, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, showed 0.955. The alpha value obtained in this study showed that the present questionnaire has the necessary reliability.
