Effects of topical Sodium Pentaborate gel on Anal fissure in adults: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
Abstract
An anal fissure is a crack or split in the tissue lining the anus. Surgery has traditionally been the only effective treatment, but there is growing interest in developing less invasive topical treatments. Boron, with its anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effects, has shown promise as a potential treatment. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Boron-based gel on anal fissures.
Methods: This study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in which participants were randomly allocated to receive a boron-based gel or a placebo for two weeks. It compared symptoms before and after treatment like itching, bleeding, pain, and feeling of pulse or lump after bowel movements between intervention and control groups.
Results: The study results indicated that following the intervention, the severity of anal fissure symptoms in patients in the intervention group significantly decreased compared to those in the control group. The healing time for anal fissure wounds was significantly shorter in the intervention group compared to the control group, and the percentage of patients cured of anal fissures was significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group.
