Examining the market share of government and non-government pharmacies in Mashhad (1397 to 1401)

Abstract
Introduction: One of the important issues in guiding the provision of pharmaceutical services to the people is regulating the market so that patients have timely access to the necessary medicines through the legal network of drug distribution at the prescribed price and observing justice. Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the market share of non-governmental and government pharmacies in terms of the proportion of income share in the preparation and distribution of medicines, considering the responsibility for medical services to patients, which can be used in the optimal management of the preparation and provision of medicines by pharmaceutical officials of health and treatment organizations.Methods: The required information forms were designed and provided to the distribution companies through the Food and Drug Administration of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences so that the sales of each company to pharmacies in Mashhad city could be calculated in rials. A form was also provided to the Iranian Health Insurance Organization to collect the amount of claims from various pharmacies, including government and non-government hospital and outpatient pharmacies.Results: The amount of governmental sector purchases from drug distribution companies was as follows: Alborz Distribution Company 11%, Adora 0%, Razi 5%, Hejrat 26%, Darou Pakhsh 48%, Ferdows 1%, and Exir 7%. The amount of non-governmental sector purchases from drug distribution companies was as follows: Alborz 6%, Adora 4%, Razi 5%, Hejrat 10%, Darou Pakhsh 10%, Ferdows 2% and Exir 24%.Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the market share of private pharmacies in Mashhad is higher than that of government pharmacies because the number of non-government pharmacies is higher than that of the government. The purchase rate from distribution companies and the amount of claims from insurance have increased.
