The effect of Agnugol on painful symptoms of endometriosis and quality of life: A randomized clinical trial
Abstract
Introduction: Endometriosis is one of the most common gynecological disorders. Considering the numerous properties of Agnugol tablet in gynecological disorders, we designed a clinical trial study to measure the effect of Agnugol tablet on the painful symptoms of endometriosis and the quality of life in affected women.Objective: To investigate pelvic pain and gynecology, quality of life, severity of dysmenorrhea and use of painkillers in endometriosis patients receiving Agnogel tablets.Methods: This randomized controlled clinical trial was conducted in 2023 on 70 women with endometriosis who recourse to Al-Zahra hospital in Tabriz. The participants were allocated to intervention (n=35) and control (n=35) groups by the blocked randomization method. Agnugol tablet with a dose of 4 mg were given to the intervention group, and the placebo with the same dose once a day for eight weeks. The questionnaires of Endometriosis Health Profile (EHP-30), Endometriosis Painful symptoms (ENDOPAIN-4D), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) were used to collect data. Independent t-tests, Fishers exact test, chi-square and Mann-Whitney U test were used to compare the outcomes between the study groups.Results: There was no statistically significant difference between the two groups regarding socio-demographic characteristics, the amount of painkillrs, the side effects, the basic values of mean scores of painful symptoms of endometriosis and the basic values of mean scores of quality of life (P<0.05). After the intervention, based on the Independent t-tests and Mann-Whitney U tests, in the intervention group, in terms of the average score of the painful symptoms of endometriosis in the usual state (P=0.01) and the most severe state (P=0.001), quality of life (P=0.000) and visual pain (P=0.002) there was a statistically significant difference.Conclusion: The results of this study showed the positive effect of Agnugol tablets on the pain level and quality of life of women with endometriosis.
