Abstract
Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) may have a potential role as biomarkers in the prognosis of various diseases, including various types of cancer, especially in patients with papillary thyroid cancer. According to these statements, the examination of neutrophil to lymphocyte and platelet to lymphocyte plasma in patients with papillary thyroid cancer have been introduced as prognostic markers in recent years. The measurement of these markers is available and can be analyzed in the routine tests of these patients, and on the other hand, as these biomarkers are known as new biomarkers, the necessity and importance of protective lymph node surgery can be evaluated using the above. ; Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of the role of preoperative neutrophil-lymphocyte and platelet-lymphocyte ratios in predicting central lymph node metastasis in patients with papillary thyroid cancer. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, all the patients who underwent surgery for papillary thyroid cancer during the period of 2019 were examined in a way that the blood sample taken from the patient before surgery which included CBC and other required factors were also investigated and lymphocyte to neutrophil ratio and platelet to neutrophil ratio were measured in these patients. Also, a checklist that includes sex, age, weight, duration of disease diagnosis, etc. was also filled for each patient. Results: The ratio of platelet to lymphocyte between patients with lymph node metastases and patients without metastases was statistically significant (P = 0.746). Also, no statistically significant difference was observed in the variable of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio between patients with lymph node metastases and patients without metastases (P = 0.239). In comparing the ratio of platelets to lymphocytes between patients with benign and malignant tumors, no statistically significant difference was observed (P = 0.751). Also, in the comparison of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio variable between patients with benign and malignant tumor, no statistically significant difference was observed (P = 0.824). In examining the relationship between the ratio of platelets to lymphocytes and the ratio of neutrophils to lymphocytes in all patients with the variables of age and tumor size, no statistically significant relationship was observed (P < 0.05)..
