چکیده
Abstract Background and objective: Type 2 diabetes is known as one of the most common chronic diseases, which is caused by impaired insulin secretion, environmental insulin resistance, or excess hepatic glucose production. Increased inflammation, oxidative stress and decreased antioxidant capacity are chronic complications of type 2 diabetes. Studies have shown that food sources rich in polyphenols can prevent the development and complications of type 2 diabetes by reducing the level of oxidative stress and improving inflammatory conditions. In this regard, the present study was designed to investigate the effect of date kernel powder as a food source rich in polyphenols on nutritional status, 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine and inflammatory indicators. Methods: In this three-blind randomized clinical trial, 46 patients with type 2 (n=23 in the intervention group and n=23 in the control group) with a body mass index of 25 to 35 points per square meter, were randomly assigned to the intervention group and the control group. Placebo was divided. The intervention group consumed 5 grams of date kernel powder daily and the placebo group consumed 5 grams of maltodextrin (maltodextrin) daily for 8 weeks. Dietary intake, blood pressure, appetite and biochemical changes including 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine, TNF-α, hs-CRP were investigated at the beginning and end of the study. Paired t-test, Independent t-test, analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) and Mann-Whitney U test were used for quantitative comparisons. Results: Based on the results of data analysis, daily supplementation of 5 grams of date kernel powder for 8 weeks resulted in a significant decrease in TNF-α and 8-OHDG compared to the placebo group (P<0.025). But the changes in hs-CRP level were not significant. The supplement of date kernel powder reduced energy intake, carbohydrates, results and appetite compared to the placebo group (P<0.045). But the changes in diastolic and systolic blood pressure levels were not significant between the two groups. Conclusion: Conclusion: In general, the present study showed that the consumption of 5 grams of date kernel powder for 8 weeks may be reduced. Of course, date powder can be introduced as a healthy and cheap anti-oxanic supplement of the second type of medicine, in addition to the consumption. Keywords: Date seed powder, inflammatory indicators, 8-OHDG, type 2 diabetes, polyphenol
