Abstract
Considering the proof of the relative restorative role of topical drugs in left-sided ulcerative colitis and their administration together with oral drugs in other types of ulcerative colitis such as pancolitis, as well as the importation and high cost of topical drugs in the pharmaceutical market of Iran, we decided to investigate the effect of sodium Let's examine topical pentaborate, whose healing effect has already been proven in skin wounds and is being studied in mucosal wounds, in the topical treatment of left-sided ulcerative colitis and rectosigmoiditis. Obviously, if the therapeutic effects of this solution are proven, an important step will be taken in the direction of treating this disease with low cost and currency savings. Methods: This study was a randomized clinical trial study as follows: 60 patients were randomly divided into two groups of 30 people from among the patients with ulcerative colitis on the left side (involvement of the splenic flexure) and for each Which of the patients in the case group was prescribed 0.2% sodium pentaborate enema gel with a volume of 100 cc once every night at bedtime along with 2 grams of mesalazine tablets. Also, for the control group, a gel enema without active ingredient with the same appearance with a volume of 100 cc was prescribed once every night at bedtime along with 2 grams of mesalazine tablets. All patients underwent colonoscopy once before the start of the study and once a month after receiving the prescribed items, and the severity of their disease was determined based on the Mayo Score, and thus the effect of the drug was checked. Results: The results of one-way covariance analysis of biochemical characteristics and total Mayo score and its sub-scores between the two groups showed that after adjusting the baseline values, there was no significant difference between the groups at the end of the study.
