Abstract Background and Objective: The information of parents who have a child with cancer and their views on nursing care are important factors affecting the quality of medical services. This study was conducted with the aim of determining information, understanding the quality and safety of nursing care in mothers with children with leukemia under the first course of chemotherapy and its relationship with chemotherapy complications in hospitals affiliated to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences. Methods: In a descriptive correlational study, 110 patients with leukemia were randomly sampled through census in the oncology departments of hospitals affiliated to Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, the data of the study were obtained through the Iranian version of the chemotherapy side effects questionnaire, parent information questionnaire (by Dr. Mutlaq was designed and psychometrically evaluated), the companion's perception questionnaire of the safety and quality of nursing care (psychometrically evaluated by the supervisor) was also used to collect demographic information from the individual social and clinical characteristics form and was analyzed in SPSSv24 software. Results: The findings showed that, regarding mothers' information, the average of mothers' total information at the time of hospitalization was 2.19, which reached 2.99 in the fourth week. Although the least amount of information was in the dimensions of medical information and physical health care information, but the greatest increase in information from the first to the fourth week, with an average difference of 0.97 and 0.90, respectively, occurred in these dimensions. The comparison of the average scores of total information and scales between the first and fourth weeks with paired t-test was significant and indicated an increase in information obtained (p<0.001). Regarding the mothers' understanding of the safety and quality of nursing care, the average of the total perception of the safety and quality of nursing care at the time of hospitalization was 2.75, which reached 2.99 in the fourth week. Although the lowest understanding of safety and quality of care was in the dimensions of patient identification and hand hygiene, the greatest increase in mothers' understanding of safety and quality of nursing care from the first to the fourth week, with an average difference of 0.41 and 0.38, respectively, occurred in these dimensions. Comparison of the average scores of mothers' understanding of safety and quality of nursing care and subscales between the first and fourth weeks with the paired t-test was significant and indicated an increase in understanding of safety and quality of nursing care (p<0.001). Regarding the side effects of chemotherapy, the comparison of the average measurements of the severity of side effects of chemotherapy during 4 weeks showed that, over time, the side effects for fever, nausea, vomiting, mouth ulcers, diarrhea and anorexia have increased linearly, but for two side effects, constipation and The hematoma increased in the form of a quadratic parabola and the second week decreased compared to the first week and increased in the third and fourth weeks. Among the complications of chemotherapy, the most complications were anorexia, nausea and fever, and the least complications were constipation and hematoma. Conclusion: At the time of complications of chemotherapy, mothers sought more information or increased information and had a greater understanding of the safety and quality of nursing care. Also, determining the level of mother's knowledge as the main care of children and adolescents suffering from cancer can have positive effects on the treatment process and control of chemotherapy side effects and increase the safety and quality of nursing care in these patients.
