Abstract
Background: Sealers are one of the most important materials needed for root canal treatment. Sealers fill the spaces between the gutta and the canal walls well and create a suitable seal to prevent the colonization of microorganisms inside the mouth in the periapical tissues and inside the canal space. A good sealer should have characteristics such as lubrication, radio-opaque, compatibility with oral tissue, antimicrobial properties, solubility, proper working time, non-toxicity, dimensional stability and adhesion to the components inside the canal. Materials and methods: In this laboratory study to prepare a new endodontic sealer, different percentages of the desired materials were mixed by spatulation method and the results in terms of solubility, flowability and setting time were compared with the control group, which was commercial sealer plus AH. To check the solubility of the sealer in the groups, copper cylindrical generators with a height of 3 mm and a diameter of 5 mm were used, and the solubility was obtained according to the ISO 4049 standard. In the continuation of the study, the flowability of sealers in groups was studied according to ISO 6875 standard and with the help of a 20 gram plate with 100 gram loading. Finally, the setting time test was also obtained according to ISO 6875 standards and with the help of Gilmore's primary needle. In order to statistically compare between the studied groups, t-test was used and a significance level of less than 0.05 was considered for the data. Graphpad 9 software was used for data analysis. Results: The results showed that the new sealer has lower solubility (P=0.0005), higher flowability (P=0.0001), higher primary setting time (P=0.0001) and higher secondary setting time (P=0.0001) compared to AH plus commercial sealer. Conclusion: Considering that all three characteristics of the new sealer in this study were favorable and within the standard range, it is suggested to use it clinically in future studies. It is noted that in the previous studies of this group, this sealer had the same sealing power as the AH plus commercial sealer and did not have cytotoxicity. While commercial sealer AH plus has shown moderate cytotoxicity.
