Investigation of Validity and Reliability of the Word Association Test of Jung According to “Planes of Being” of Cloninger
Abstract
The present plan is an attempt to take the initial steps to introduce a method for quantitative measurement of levels and to evaluate its validity; In this way, the classic method of Jung's word association has been changed in such a way that its results can be used to argue the person's level. If a method to determine the level of people is introduced that can be used at the bedside, psychologists, psychoanalysts and psychiatrists can make their approaches more effective based on the priorities of patients and the problems that they are currently and probably will be more involved with in the future; Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the validity and reliability of Jung's word association test based on Cloninger's levels.
Materials and methods: Jung's word association test, based on Cloninger's levels, was previously designed by the researchers of this project and has been developed as a software, and it is validated in the present study. While explaining the general nature of the study to the volunteers (ten experts, ten from the target community, and fifty student volunteers) and obtaining informed consent from them to participate in the study, demographic information such as age, gender, and educational characteristics were first recorded. Then they were asked to fill in the forms related to quantitative and qualitative face validity and content validity (ten people, ten people). Fifty students were also asked to perform Jung's word association test, which was designed based on levels, so that their data could be used to calculate reliability using internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha). Finally, all the recorded data were entered into Excel and statistical analysis software and were calculated and analyzed according to the standards introduced for the appropriate statistical method to describe and calculate quantitative and qualitative face validity, content validity and Cronbach's alpha.
Results: In face validity, candidates were given a questionnaire with 30 questions that they could choose the options of "completely important", "important", "medium importance", "little importance" and "unimportant" regarding different levels of importance. Then, by using EXCEL software, a score of 1-5 was assigned to each of the options and the impact score was calculated and it was found that only Q4 is less than the stated value of 1.5, and as a result, it was removed and the rest remained. Also, CVR of the whole item was equal to 0.71 and Cronbach's alpha was equal to 0.82 for the whole instrument, which is acceptable.
