Perceived psycho-social and informational needs of family with children with burn hospitalized in the children's burn department of Sina Medical Education Center, Tabriz, 1400

Abstract
Abstract Background Children are at the highest risk of burn injuries. The family is the most important source of their support. Identifying the informational and psychosocial needs of these parents and supporting them is very important for adapting the child to the current situation, returning to the conditions before the accident, and returning to school, and society. The present study was conducted to determine the perceived informational needs of families with hospitalized children with burns. Method A cross-sectional study was performed on 200 family caregivers of children hospitalized in a burn department in Tabriz- Iran. The sampling method was the convenience sampling method. Socio-demographic and informational needs, sources, and methods of receiving information questionnaires were used for data collection. Descriptive (mean, standard deviation, frequency, and percentage), and inferential statistics including Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman correlation tests were used to analyze the data. Results The results showed that the family caregivers’ greatest need for information is in the field of the child's condition. Also, the most sources of information needed by them are the treatment team. They need receive information comprehensibly and understandably, be honest, and preserve human dignity and their most psychosocial need is the need for help in controlling anxiety, anger, guilt, helplessness and loneliness. Conclusion: The findings of the study provide valuable insights into the perceived informational needs of families with hospitalized children with burns and the factors that influence their information-seeking behaviors. These findings can inform the development of interventions and support services to meet the needs of families and improve the quality of care for children with burns and to create and develop family-centered care.
