Design, implementation and evaluation of registry for patient with hysterectomy

Introduction: Hysterectomy is one of the most common gynecological surgeries and the second most common operation after cesarean section, which is performed more than 80% for the treatment of benign uterine diseases. Registration of hysterectomy candidate patients can be a powerful tool to observe the hysterectomy surgery process.
Objective: This study was conducted with the aim of designing, implementing, and evaluating the applicability of suitable software for the launch of a hysterectomy registration system.
Materials and methods: The present study is of a developmental-applied type. In this study, after reviewing the articles, guidelines, and similar systems, the minimum data elements were extracted and provided to the panel of experts for surveying in the form of an electronic questionnaire, then according to the existing data classes, of a web based system, with C# programming language, was write in the SQL server database and the Visual Studio environment. The usability of the system was evaluated by users with the standard QUIS questionnaire. The data quality was also evaluated in terms of accuracy and completeness with the file information of 40 patients admitted to Al-Zahra Hospital in Tabriz.
Findings: The hysterectomy registration system was grouped into nine categories and 91 data elements, which include demographic data, patient history, prophylaxis, operation information, additional interventions and accompanying measures, complications, discharge data, pathology, and readmission. according to the findings of the data registration of patients discharged from Al-Zahra Hospital during two months from 2023, leiomyoma is the most common indication and the abdominal approach is the most used method by gynecologists in hysterectomy.
Conclusion: Designing a hysterectomy registration system is the first step in identifying and registering hysterectomy candidate patients, the methods used and their complications in Iran, which can be a suitable tool for determining the quality of services and distribution of care and clinical measures.
