comparison study of serum levels of Vit E&D,Omega 3 in patients with generalized chronic periodontitis based on disease severity (mild, moderate, severe)
Abstract
Nutritional poverty can cause changes in the primary factors of etiological diseases.
Materials and methods
In this cross-sectional descriptive study, the number of 36 periodontitis patients who had the conditions to enter the study were investigated. After obtaining informed consent from the patients, patient information including age, gender, periodontal disease, and vitamin D, E, and omega-3 serum results were recorded in the checklist. The clinical examinations of the patients were the number of teeth, (PD), (CAL), (GBI) and dental plaque. Then a serum sample was obtained and serum vitamin D, E and omega-3 levels were measured by ELISA method. The data was analyzed by SPSS software version 24 and ONE WAY ANOVA, TUKEY TEST. A probability value of less than 0.05 is considered a significant level.
Results
There was a significant difference in the serum levels of vitamin D and E based on the severity of periodontitis (P<.05), so that it was significantly lower in severe periodontitis (P<.05). There was no significant difference in Omega-3 serum level based on the severity of periodontitis.
Conclusion
The serum level of vitamin D and E is effective on the severity of periodontitis.
