Investigating the prevalence of local injuries of third molar tooth impaction and their relationship with the angle and depth of impaction in the surgical department of Tabriz Faculty of Dentistry in the academic year of 1402-1401
چکیده
Background: Dentists' awareness of the prevalence of complications caused by the impaction of the third molar on the second molar adjacent to it can make a significant contribution to the preservation of the second molar. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between impacted tooth angle and depth of impact with periodontal lesions and bone loss.
Methods: The purpose of this study is to investigate the prevalence of local injuries in impacted third molars and its relationship with the angle and depth of impaction of third molars in people aged 17-55 years who referred for impacted wisdom tooth surgery in Tabriz Dental Faculty in the academic year. It was done in 1402-1401. The frequency of local injuries and their types were investigated and evaluated through clinical examinations and radiographs in the clients, and the relationship between these injuries and the depth and angle of impaction of the third molar was analyzed.
Results: The results showed that out of 178 third molar teeth examined in this study, only in the lower jaw. The average angle of incidence was 36.8 degrees. The lowest incidence angle was 0 and the highest incidence angle was 98. The highest amount of embedment was observed in the right molar. There was a negative correlation between the size of the embedment angle with the embedment depth and probing depth. In other words, with the increase of the embedment angle, the embedment depth and probing depth decrease, but this decrease was not statistically significant. On the other hand, with the increase of the angle of incidence, the amount of bone resorption increases slightly, but this increase did not reach a significant level.
Conclusion: This retrospective radiographic study investigated the prevalence of impacted third molars in patients aged 17 to 55 years. The high prevalence found emphasizes the need to increase awareness among dental professionals.
