Evaluation of chef complaints and diagnoses of patients referred to the emergency department in three categories of middle-aged youth and the elderly; a cross sectional study

Abstract
Assessment of chief complaints and diagnoses of patients in the emergency department is crucial for providing effective medical care. It is important to understand the patterns, prevalence and consequences of these complaints among different age groups in order to optimize resources and improve patient outcomes. While previous researches have investigated the main complaints and final diagnoses in the emergency department, but there is a need for more comprehensive investigations in this field, specifically investigate three age groups of patients, i.e. middle-aged, young and elderly, and Focus on them. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of increasing awareness and knowledge about the main complaints and diagnoses in these age groups, identifying age-related differences or patterns that may affect clinical decision-making and patient management. This study can help to increase the quality of emergency department care by helping to improve the targeting of emergency affairs. Methods.In this retrospective cross-sectional study, first, data were extracted from the population referring to the emergency room with various complaints and diagnoses in the year 2020-2021 and the age range above 18 years. All the patients who came to the emergency department of Imam Reza (AS) hospital with different complaints during the years 2020 and 2021 were included in the study. Data were extracted from hospital records and patients whose clinical records were incomplete were excluded from the study. Findings In general, the clients were examined in three different age groups, and the maximum number of clients in all three age groups were young, middle-aged and elderly patients, patients with COPD, abdominal pain, weakness and lethargy. The mean of the age of the clients was 49.29, and the lowest clients were related to complaints and diagnoses of MI, Pneumonia,CRF. In general, most of the clients were men, and the most age group of those who referred to the emergency room was middle-aged.
