Abstract
Abstract: Background: Child to parents Violence is an important type of family violence that has recently gained considerable attention. There are multiple factors that contribute to the manifestation of this type of violence. The present study aimed to ascertain the extent of CPV prevalence and its associated factors among university students. Methods: In this cross-sectional study 500 first-year students of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences were selected through proportional random sampling in 2023. Data were collected using demographic information questionnaire, child-to-parent violence questionnaire and spiritual well-being questionnaire. Obtained data were analyzed using SPSS software version 16 for descriptive statistics, independent t-test and logistic regression (both single-variable and multiple-variable). Results: The findings indicated that controlling and psychological violence has the highest prevalence and physical violence had the least occurrence. The findings did not show a significant relationship between the occurrence of violence towards parents and the spiritual well-being score (p=0.379 for violence towards fathers and p=0.186 for violence towards mothers). Compared girls, boys had a lower likelihood of exhibiting violence against their father (OR=0.44; p=0.001) and mother (OR=0.41; p=0.001). Furthermore, students in the paramedical group had a 54% and 77% lower probability of violence against their father (OR=0.46; p=0.011) and mother (OR=0.33; p=0.001) compared to those in the medical group respectively. Conclusions: Given the high prevalence of psychological violence towards their parents and the consideration of pertinent factors, it appears necessary to implement strategies such as instructing appropriate communication abilities, delivering mental health support services, developing preventive programs and initiatives for fostering spirituality during adolescence.
