Investigating suicide risk factors in the Alborz province between 2018-2022

Introduction and purpose: Suicide is one of the biggest health problems in the society, which causes death, disability and physical and mental injuries of many people in the society every year, and it is considered as one of the most important priorities of the health system. be The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating suicide risk factors in Alborz province between 2018-2023.
Methods and Materials: The present research method is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-analytical in terms of cross-sectional nature. The statistical population of the present study includes all people who committed suicide between the years 2018 and 2023 in Alborz province. The sampling method in the present study was total. The suicide registration checklist of the Ministry of Health was used to collect data. T-test, Spearman's correlation, logistic regression, analysis of variance and Korskal-Wallis were used to check the hypotheses, and SPSS and EXCEL software were used.
Findings: The survey showed that the rate of suspected suicide deaths in terms of population has increased from 6.82 (per hundred thousand people) in 2018 to 10.18 (per hundred thousand people) in 2023. The suicide rate among women is higher than men, but it is not statistically significant (p<0.05). In terms of occupation, housewives had the highest rate of suicide attempts. In terms of education, people with diploma and sub-diploma education had the highest suicide attempt. Married people had the highest and widowed people (died spouse) had the lowest suicide attempts. The highest method of committing suicide was using medication and the lowest method was firearms (p<0.05). The results of Spearman's correlation showed a significant relationship between suicide attempts with depression symptoms and education (p<0.05). Logistic regression showed that depressive symptoms and education predict suicidal thoughts (p<0.05). The ratio of attempted suicide and the result of suicide was 3.96% death and 96.4% non-death.
Conclusion: According to the obtained results, it can be concluded that the trend of suicide has been increasing from 1397 to 1401 and the death rate due to suicide has increased during these years. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that the situation of suicide attempts and death due to suicide in this province is getting worse and appropriate measures should be taken according to the results obtained in this field.
