The effect of hydro alcoholic extracts of Fennel flower and flax plants on fatigue in MS patients

Abstract
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic and progressive disease of the central nervous system characterized by chronic inflammation, myelin degradation of nerve cells by the immune system, and the formation of plaques in the nervous system. Fatigues is one of the major issues for patients with MS, but usually, it gets neglected. Materials and methods: In a clinical trial study, which was carried out between January 1401 and June 1402, firstly relevant questionnaires such as demographic information of patients, history of past illnesses, history of drugs used by the patient, history of smoking and alcohol consumption, level of education, Job and... were completed and the effects of 3-month treatment with hydroalcoholic extract of flax and black seed medicinal plants were compared with the ineffective drug. After coding, the data is entered into SPSS 22 program and using descriptive statistics method in table format and using analytical statistics methods such as t-test and if necessary, Mann-Whitney U-test and Chi-square. was analyzed. Results: After 67 patients were examined to participate in this study, finally 50 patients were included in this study and in 2 groups of 25 people, complementary interventions of hydroalcoholic extract of flax and black seed medicinal plants (25 people) and ineffective drug (25 people) ) and finally after discarding the patients who did not return 3 months after receiving the intervention, 36 patients including 17 patients from the intervention group and 19 patients from the control group were included in the final analysis. The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference in the physical (EDSS before: p-value: 0.08 and EDSS after: p-value: 0.22) and cognitive performance of the two groups (SDMT before: p-value: 0.98 and SDMT after: p-value: 0.42), before and after the period of treatment with the supplement of hydroalcoholic extract of flax and black seed medicinal plants and there was no ineffective drug. In determining the effect of black seed supplement on the fatigue status and abstract of the patients' health, the only factor that differed between the study groups was the general fatigue status of the patients (p -value: 0.03) that this difference was also seen in patients before the intervention (p-value: 0.03) and a significant difference in the state of pain, stress, anxiety, sleep problems, feeding problems and walking problems between the study groups Not seen (p-value>0.05).
