Production of new endodontics sealer and comparison of its sealing ability with commercial AH PLUS sealer
Abstract
Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study was prepare and evaluate the sealing power of a new endodontic sealer based along with conventional materials used in dental sealers.
Material and Method:
In this laboratory study to prepare new endodontic sealers, different percentages of the desired materials were mixed by spatulation method in separate groups (A, B, C, D, and E) and the results were compared with the control group, which was considered AH PLUS commercial sealer.
To check the sealing power, 60 extracted human teeth with single root canal were collected.
The crowns of those teeth were splitted with a metal disk so that the remaining root length was at least 16 mm. The root canals were prepared and filled with gutta-percha and sealer by lateral compaction method. Then the remaining root orifice area was sealed with cyanoacrylate adhesive . Remaining roots were covered by nail varnish to prevent leakage. The apical foramen area was not covered by nail varnish to assess the amount of leakage. The mentioned roots were placed in phosphate buffer solution. Brilliant Blue reagent was used to check the leakage. The concentration of Brilliant Blue reagent was checked by spectrophotometer before placing the samples and 60 days after placing the samples. The change in the concentration of this reagent was calculated by the absorption and calibration curve, which indicated the existence of leakage from the apical foramen.
Results:
Group C significantly has the best sealing effect compared to groups A, B, D, and E (P value <0.047).
The sealing effect of group C was similar to AH Plus as a commercial sealer, and this finding was not statistically significant. (P value = 0.854)
In terms of sealing effect, groups B had significantly more sealing effect than groups D and E. (P value < 0.020) Also, group B had a better sealing effect than group A, but this finding was not statistically significant. (P value = 0.246)
Group A had a better sealing effect than groups D and E, but this finding was not statistically significant. (P value > 0.110)
Group D had a better sealing effect than group E, but this finding was not statistically significant. (P value = 0.735)
Conclusion: The sealing ability of group C was significantly better than groups A, B, D, and E. (P value <0.047)
