Survey of relationship between mite infestation and ocular blepharitis in patients referred to medical clinics of Tabriz university of medical sciences

Abstract
n the conjunctiva, there are a large number of vessels, immune cells and defense substances that protect the inner layers of the eyeball against infections and foreign factors. In addition, eye tears also have cells and immune factors that help defend against external factors, so many defense reactions take place in front of the eyeball at the level of the conjunctiva. Whenever the natural control of these defense reactions is disturbed or the defense reactions occur against internal factors instead of foreign factors, allergic reactions occur, therefore, considering the importance of eye diseases, this research wants to investigate the role of mites in causing or aggravating Identify these diseases, especially eye allergies, so that specific eye mite allergy treatment can be done. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional descriptive study that was conducted in Tabriz University of Medical Sciences during 2022-2023 . In the first step, patients with eye disorders referred to medical centers of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences are evaluated during a one-year period. Patient information including age, gender, clinical symptoms, and CBC tests will be recorded. Patients with symptoms of conjunctivitis, conjunctivitis with atopic dermatitis, inflammation of the conjunctiva and cornea, eyelid edema, runny nose and skin allergies such as atopic dermatitis are selected for the study. And by the doctor, waxed eyelashes from the upper and lower eyelids are sent to the laboratory as a sample, and in the laboratory, the sample is examined under a light microscope, and in case of mite contamination, the severity of the contamination is determined. Results: Demodex was positive in 31 patients; D.folliculorum was positive in 26 people and D.brevis was positive in 5 people. There is no statistical relationship between the infection of D.folliculorum and D.brevis and demodex and gender. There is a statistically significant relationship between the positive results of D.folliculorum and D.brevis infection and old demodex (P˂0.001).
