Abstract
Introduction: Diabetes is the most common metabolic disease in the world. If blood sugar is not properly controlled, it causes many problems for patients. In type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetic patients), chronic use of intravenous insulin is associated with complications such as hypoglycemia. And on the other hand, this drug is one of the most expensive drugs used in Iran. The use of complementary treatment measures (use of minerals such as chromium, and chemical and herbal substances) that reduce the need for the amount of insulin consumed has a special place. Eryngium billardieri flowerwater is considered as one of the beneficial products in reducing blood sugar in diabetic patients.Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of Eryngium billardieri flowerwater on blood sugar of type 1 diabetic patients Methods: In this study, 20 patients with type 1 diabetes who visited Imam Reza Medical Center, after announcing their readiness to cooperate in the project, entered the study and received 50 cc per day of Eryngium billardieri flowerwater for two months at night and they took it before sleep. Hemoglobin A1C was recorded on Before and after consuming Eryngium billardieri flowerwater for each patient. The amount of insulin and blood sugar before and during the study was also recorded for the patients. Results: The results demonstrated that no significant changes were observed in the level of hemoglobin A1C after two months. Also, after two months of using Eryngium billardieri flowerwater by patients, changes in insulin (lantus and novorapid) were not significant either(P-value>0.05). No significant change was observed in the blood sugar levels of the patients (P-value>0.05). Conclusion: The consumption of Eryngium billardieri flowerwater in type 1 diabetes patients has no effect on reducing blood sugar, insulin dose and hemoglobin A1C.
