Comparison of the effectiveness of mouthwash containing betamethasone with mouthwash containing dexamethasone in reducing the pain level of patients with symptomatic oral lichen planus

Abstract

Background/Aim: Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic inflammatory disease with unknown etiology is Different symptoms and treatment methods, corticosteroids have been considered as the first line of treatment due to their anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive system suppressing effects. Because the effectiveness of two topical corticosteroids, dexamethasone and betamethasone, in reducing oral lichen septa have not been compared. By comparing them and finding a more effective drug, we decided to provide effective help in reducing symptoms and improving the quality of life of patients with oral lichen planus.

Methods: In this double blind randomized clinical trial. 34 patients with oral lichen planus were selected from the patients referred to the Department of Oral, Maxillofacial and Oral Diseases of Tabriz Faculty of Dentistry. Biopsy was conducted to confirm the diagnosis. Patients were randomly divided into 2 groups of 17 people. For 6 weeks, one group received betamethasone mouthwash and one group received dexamethasone mouthwash. Pain scale Visual Analoug Scale was used to measure changes in symptom intensity; And the VAS level on the first day of visit was compared with 6 weeks later. Paired Samples T statistical test and SPSS25 software were used to compare the severity of symptoms before and after treatment in two groups. In this study, p value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant
