The effect of propolis and placebo supplementation with weight loss diet on antioxidant-peroxidant balance, oxidative stress status, nutritional status, liver function and body composition in patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: A randomized controlled clinical trial
Abstract
Results: There were no significant differences between the groups in dietary intakes and physical activity after the intervention. Weight and body mass index (BMI) significantly decreased in both groups while inter-group differences were not statistically significant after adjusting for the potential confounders. Although PAB and oxidative stress biomarkers improved in both groups, inter-group changes in glutathione peroxidase (GPX) were significant (p=0.027) after 8-weeks. Although changes in serum liver enzyme were not significant between the groups, NAFLD fibrosis score was significantly reduced after PRP supplementation (p= 0.021).
Conclusion: Iranian PRP administration (1500 mg/day) associated with weight loss diet for 8 weeks in patients with NAFLD improved GPX level as well as NAFLD fibrosis score.
