Investigation of the salivary level of interleukins 6 and 8 in people with geographic language who referred to the oral diseases department of Tabriz Dental Faculty in the academic year 2022-2023
Abstract
Introduction:
Cytokines play an important role in regulating the host response to infection and tissue damage. The aim of this research was to compare the salivary levels of interleukin 6 and 8 in people with geographic tongue and healthy people.
Materials and methods
In this case-control study, 34 people with geographic tongue and 34 healthy people participated. Non-stimulated saliva samples were collected from both groups. Saliva samples were stored in falcon tubes in a freezer at minus 20 degrees Celsius. After completing the sampling, the amount of interleukin 6 and 8 was measured using the ELISA kit prepared by Invitrogen. Data analysis was done with spss software version 24 and t-test. A P-value less than 0.05 was considered as a significant level.
Results
The average age of healthy people (32±6.14) and people with geographic tongue disease (30.05±6.48) had no significant difference. The average of interleukin 8 in patients with geographic language (87.53±7.38) was significantly higher than healthy subjects (53.53±6.04) (P<.05). The average of interleukin 6 in patients with geographic language (49.11±49.92) was significantly higher than healthy subjects (459.65±46.11) (P<.05). In both control and patient groups, the level of interleukin 6 and 8 in women is significantly higher than in men (P<.05).
Conclusion
The mean of interleukin 8 and interleukin 6 in patients with geographic tongue was significantly higher than that of healthy subjects.
