Abstract
Scientometrics is a part of science that deals with the analysis of scientific articles and citing them in a selected sample of scientific journals. Scientometrics is at the border between research and the decision-making, policy-making and evaluation processes that underpin research. The present study is a scientometric study of published articles about thyroid cancer. Research materials and methods: In this scientometric study, articles published in the Scopus database that were published until May 2022 were analyzed. Searches were performed in the Scopus database and among the titles, abstracts and keywords of the articles in this search. All the analyzes carried out in this project were done by R software and Bibliometrix software package. Results: More than 28,000 references were obtained, which were analyzed in two stages due to the large number of results: in one of the analyzes, the top 2000 cited articles of this database were analyzed. Using the second analysis, articles published in the last 5 years were evaluated: most relevant sources included Journal of clinical endocrinology and metabolism and Cancer. The most authors related to the field of thyroid cancer included MORRIS LGT, SIKORA AG and DAVIES L. Based on the results of the analysis of 2000 highly cited articles on thyroid cancer, the most relevant publications were as follows: NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE and NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE AT NIH and UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON. Also, the results of the study showed that the countries with the most references in the field of thyroid cancer were the United States, France, and England. Based on the number of citations, the most cited evidences were related to the articles of BRAY F-2018 (with more than 47772 citations), SUNG H-2021 (with more than 18174 citations) and PARKIN DM-2005 (with more than 17227 citations).
