Abstract
TEN is mainly used to treat fractures of the diaphysis (trunk) of the femur in children. Studies on the clinical consequences of using this method in the age range of children have been performed; But so far no study has been done to compare the use of two medial and lateral portals versus the use of lateral portal alone; Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the results of TEN application for fixation of femoral trunk fractures in children with two medial and lateral portals or only lateral. Materials and Methods: A study of 80 children with femoral trunk fractures in two separate groups. The age range of children aged 5 to 16 years who had a unilateral or bilateral femoral trunk fracture and required surgery was performed. Patients were divided into two groups, one using TEN with lateral portal and the other with TEN with two medial and lateral portals. Patients before and after surgery in terms of full-length radiograph of the lower limb, clinical features of the fusion, radiological features of the fusion, range of motion of the knee on the fracture side, difference in the length of the lower limb, other complications. The final results were evaluated by Flynn criterion Results: Varus was observed in 12 children in the lateral portal group and 12 children in the medial / lateral portal group, and in one child in the lateral portal group and two children in the medial / lateral portal group, valgus was observed. Shortening was observed in 8 children in the medial / lateral portal group and in 10 patients in the lateral portal group, which was non-significant in children in the medial / lateral portal group than in the lateral portal group. The number of rotations in the medial / lateral portal group was non-significant more than the lateral portal group; It should be noted that in both groups, the number of external rotations was more than internal rotations. The amount of Prominent hardware in the medial / lateral portal group was significantly higher than the lateral portal group. The duration of lateral portal fusion was significantly less than the medial / lateral portal group.
