Abstract
Reduction of cytokine storms and immunogenetic damage may be the main treatment option for serious patients with COVID-19. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of high dose intravenous vitamin C in Covid patients admitted to the intensive care unit and to evaluate its effect on the outcome and duration of hospitalization. Methods: This study is an interventional study in which patients admitted to the critical care ward due to Covid-19 involvement were enrolled in the census during the months of May 10 to July 10, using EXCELL software. They were randomly divided into two groups. Admission had to be done within 12 hours of admission to the ICU. Then, patients were randomly divided into treatment control group according to the treatment protocol of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, and in the control group, despite treatment with the standard protocol, vitamin C was also prescribed. Results: The mean age of patients in the intervention group was 55.57 16 16.14 years. The mean age of patients in the control group was 62.78. 15.51 years, which shows a significant difference between the two groups (pv = 0.001). In the intervention group, 49 patients (49%) were male and 51 patients (51%) were female. In the control group, 62 patients (62%) were male and 38 patients (38%) were female, which did not show a significant difference between the two groups (pv = 0.087). In the study of patients' outcome in the two groups, nearly two thirds of the patients died (pv = 0.449) The length of hospitalization of patients in the intervention group was equal to 7.51 94 5.94 days in the intervention group It was equal to 6.43 days which did not show a significant difference between the two groups (PV = 0.169)
