Clinical indicators of cognitive function in patients with the first episode of psychosis

Abstract
Psychosis is an abnormal condition of mind resulting in an impaired relationship with reality. Psychosis consists of spectrum of disorders with prominent symptoms of hallucination and delusion. Genetic, environmental, physical and psychological factors can precipitate onset of psychosis. It’s almost necessary to be admitted in psychiatry ward and atypical antipsychotics are drugs of choice. Prognosis mainly depends on age of onset, duration of symptoms, marital status, psychosocial support, and comorbidities. Taking high prevalence of psychosis in our community and lack of information about cognitive function of psychotic patients into consideration, our aim was to evaluate the cognitive function in patients with the first episode of psychosis. Methods: In this study, patients with first episode of psychosis, admitted to Razi hospital of Tabriz, following taking informed consent, were evaluated. Demographic information, collected and cognitive function was evaluated by Persian paper and pencil cognitive assessment package, and collected data were analyzed statistically. Results: The total number of patients were 175, 39% women and 69 % men. The mean age was 32.9 ± 0.8. The age chart had skewness and was not normal. Reslts followed by means of different scores of cognitive tests with 95% confidence interval. And results of sungroup analysis was reported.
