Evaluation of the participation of edentulous patients treated with implants in the supportive periodontal therapy (SPT) program and its relationship with their satisfaction with the treatment
Abstract
Introduction: Supportive periodontal treatments (SPT) in patients receiving implants and communication between the patient and the dentist are very important. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the participation rate of completely edentulous patients treated with implants in the SPT program and the rate of treatment satisfaction
Method and Mateials: In this cross-sectional descriptive analytical study, 28 completely edentulous patients referred to the Faculty of Dentistry in Tabriz who applied for implants in both jaws and had completed their implant treatment and met the conditions for entering the study were examined. First, the importance of participating in the SPT program was explained. Then, in the review sessions in 3 stages (immediately at the starting point of the SPT program, 3 months later, 6 months later), the patient satisfaction questionnaire and the participation checklist in the SPT program were completed. In each session, the plaque index was also determined. The questionnaire of patients' satisfaction with implant treatment included two parts of demographic questions and 15 questions related to measuring patients' satisfaction. The SPT program was also divided into 4 groups: full cooperation, partial cooperation, weak cooperation and non-cooperation. The obtained data were analyzed by SPSS 20 statistical software, ANOVA, Tukey's post hoc test, Fisher's exact test, and Chi-square.
Results: The participation rate of patients in the SPT program is 64.3% full participation, 17.9% partial participation, 10.7% poor participation and 7.1% non-cooperation. The frequency of patients with healthy and normal gums was 57.1% in the next three months and 78.6% in the next six months. The satisfaction level of the patients was 30.78±5.93 after three months and 31.07±6.44 after six months. The level of satisfaction of patients based on their participation in the SPT program showed a significant difference both times. So that people who had full participation showed more satisfaction
Conclution: Patients' participation in the SPT program increased their satisfaction with implant treatment.
