Abstract
Background and Aim: A major advancement in the current practice of dentistry is the restoration of teeth with tooth colored, adhesive materials. When glass ionomer cements were developed, they caught the attention of researchers and practicing dentists. Micro-flexural strength of restorative materials plays an important role in the success of tooth-colored restorations. The passage of time can have a significant effect on the flexural strength of restorative materials, which is often overlooked. Our aim was to investigate the effect of the passage of different times after the curing on the micro-flexural strength of Geristore. Materials and Methods: In this in-vitro study, Geristore was used. 21 rectangular specimens with dimensions of 2 * 1 * 6 mm were prepared according to the manufacturer's instructions, they were light cured and micro-flexural strength was measured 10 minutes after light curing, 1h and 1 week after light curing. Samples were stored at 37°C and 100% humidity. The micro-flexural strength test was performed by a universal testing device. One-way ANOVA test (P-value<0.05) and GraphPad Prism 9.0.0 software was used for data analysis. Results: According to the results of this study, the highest mean flexural strength was related to the group of 10 minutes after the cure. According to the results of the one-way ANOVA test, there was a significant difference between the mean micro-flexural strength at different times after curing (P-value=0.002). Micro-flexural strength of the 10 minute group (17.56±1.75) was significantly different from the 1 week group (13.72±1.11). Conclusion: According to the obtained results, in general, it can be said that with passage of more time after curing, the micro-flexural strength decreases in the Geristore.
