Evaluation of the outcome of trauma patients with pelvic injuries admitted to non-orthopedic wards
Abstract
Pelvic fracture is one of the relatively common injuries in patients with multiple trauma, which causes poor outcome in patients and increases the risk of death.The aim of this study was to evaluate patients with pelvic trauma with damage to other organs admitted to non-orthopedic wards and what is the fate of these patients and their consequences and what measures are taken for pelvic injury in these patients.
Methods: All multiple trauma patients who referred to the emergency department of Imam Reza Hospital during 3years were be included in the study in full. Patients who did not have pelvic injuries, patients who were referred to Shohada Hospital as orthopedic centers, patients who were hospitalized in the orthopedic ward of Imam Reza (AS) Hospital due to pelvic injuries, and patients whose medical records were incomplete will be excluded from the study. .
Results: In this study, 68 patients were included in the study with a mean age of 37.55 ± 17.38 years who were young. Of these patients, 49 were male (72.1%) and 19 were female (27.9%), which indicates the predominance of men in the community. The most common finding in the emergency department for these patients was multiple organ damage. In these patients, the most common finding was in the abdomen of patients and somehow required hospitalization in surgery. 63 patients have been discharged from the hospital with full or partial recovery. 4 patients have died and 1 patient has been transferred to another province at the request of the patient's companions. Of the 4 patients who died, 1 patient died due to hemorrhagic shock (bleeding) due to unstable pelvis, 1 due to peritonitis and 2 due to multiple organ failure.
