Abstract
Cardiovascular diseases are the most common life-threatening diseases in developed countries. Also, these diseases cause the most death, disability and financial burden. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of angina pectoris in the population of East Azerbaijan and its relationship with demographic indicators. Method: This study was a cross-sectional survey that was conducted on 1500 households and patients were examined in terms of age, sex, marital status, place of residence, level of education, occupation, smoking and alcohol use, weight and BMI in all patients. The relationship between the prevalence of angina pectoris and infarction with these factors was evaluated. Results: The prevalence of cardiac angina among all studied patients was 7.7%, of which 4% was related to angina grade I cases and 3.7% was related to angina grade II cases. The prevalence of heart infarction was 4.5%. The prevalence of infarction was significantly higher among patients living in cities other than Tabriz. Meanwhile, no significant difference was observed in terms of angina with different grades between patients. The prevalence of grade II angina was higher among female patients. Meanwhile, no significant difference was observed in terms of grade I angina and heart attack between male and female patients. Patients were divided into five groups based on age and it was shown that the frequency of both grade I and II angina as well as infarct increases with age. Meanwhile, no significant difference was found in the prevalence of ischemic heart disease symptoms among married and single patients.
